Case Study: Cell C.
Mandate: To distribute “phone shops” nationally from Silverton in the most cost effective and efficient manner.
Solution: A multi-modal solution based on spoke and hub distribution principals was employed.
Main routes to be done by rail (three phone shops per wagon). A network of local crane and roll back vehicle owners were responsible for delivery.
Challenges: Four-meter containers (the phone shops) had never been transported on rail before. This meant that a new pricing system and a unique loading profile needed approval. It was also critical to establish a national delivery network made up of local crane and roll-back vehicle owners.
Result: Hundreds of phone shops were successfully transported to different destinations across the country.
