Case Study: M&B Pressure Investments

Mandate: Due to the many road upgrade programmes, an urgent need for higher tonnages of road-surfacing stone from Limpopo quarries was and is being required.

Challenges: Capacity constraints with regard to both locomotives and wagons on the side of Transnet Freight Rail. Thus LQ needed to move greater tonnages utilising fewer resources.

Solution: To execute more train trips per week using existing resources. The results are illustrated below in Figure 1 Tonnages moved 2007 to 2010.
